For as the body is clad in the cloth, and the flesh in the skin, and the bones in the flesh, and the heart in the whole, so are we, soul and body, clad in the Goodness of god, and enclosed.
Julian of Norwich, 1342-1413
British Christian Mystic
28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
I have several friends who have expensive handbags. Many of them enjoy displaying the labels. It goes the same for their clothing, and with some it extends to cars, schools, etc. Among my friends, two stand out. They stand out because they know quality, the are not “loose” with their funds, and they own a particular brand of bag. One told me she likes them because of $20.00 they will clean and repair the bag for the life of the bag. The other told me she likes them because they truly last and if you buy a classic style, you have it essentially for life. The latter friend prefers to buy bags with no “obvious” graphic or tag because the quality is built in, and she knows it is there. She doesn’t have to advertise.
These items are clothed in tradition, and quality. Anyone can own them, it just takes a little saving, or a generous giver. We are clad in God’s goodness by God’s grace and after our earthly life is worn, we are eligible for a garment of white and a lifetime in glory with God. Today, look past the labels, see the beauty in each person you encounter, no matter what the label. They are on a journey toward that same generous giver.
