At the Cross

There are exactly as many special occasions in life as we choose to celebrate.

~ Robert Brault

35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

~ Hebrews 10:35-36

At the Cross

I don’t know your church background.  I have a Mulligan Stew of churches in mine.  Along the way, I heard this hymn.  I never heard it sung like this before.  It was more like a happy, bouncy tune we belted out.  This version, while filled with a bit more drama, slows down the moment like a good writer, and allows the listener, singer, reader to enter in and remember.

The Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church

This next version takes us from the cross into the light. It gives back the joy that one first experiences when one realizes how much love Jesus has for us and just where we are headed.  It is kind of like falling in love with my husband all over again.  You get through something, and then there is that realization of the love it took, and you can get our of your own way to receive it. (Talking about my self here folks.)

I love Eugene Peterson’s version of this scripture from The Message :

32-39 Remember those early days after you first saw the light? Those were the hard times! Kicked around in public, targets of every kind of abuse—some days it was you, other days your friends. If some friends went to prison, you stuck by them. If some enemies broke in and seized your goods, you let them go with a smile, knowing they couldn’t touch your real treasure. Nothing they did bothered you, nothing set you back. So don’t throw it all away now. You were sure of yourselves then. It’s still a sure thing! But you need to stick it out, staying with God’s plan so you’ll be there for the promised completion.

It won’t be long now, he’s on the way;
he’ll show up most any minute.
But anyone who is right with me thrives on loyal trust;
if he cuts and runs, I won’t be very happy.

But we’re not quitters who lose out. Oh, no! We’ll stay with it and survive, trusting all the way.

(Hebrews 10:32-39)

Whatever it is you are going through.  Don’t quit.  God is right there to help you see things in a whole new way!  Celebrate!

Because of Him,
