In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours.
~ Mark Twain
But now that you’ve found you don’t have to listen to sin tell you what to do, and have discovered the delight of listening to God telling you, what a surprise! A whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way! Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master.
~ Romans 6:23
My parallel for today is in Eugene Peterson’s The Message. No matter what kind of weather you have seen, there is a whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way!
The weather of this winter has left me like the leaves,
beaten down, flattened out, matted to the lawn like papier -mache’.
So much weather, so much gray.
But wait! There is a disturbance beneath,
a fresh, green sheath
of life, poking, pushing, prodding, lifting, moving.
Where once there was a sad clump
a shoot reaches up, promising more,
and beautiful in its struggle.
Fresh life from withered stems,
Praise anew, it’s spring again.
Today, let your beaten layer go, greet the fresh breeze
whether it carries rain, or snow, and look at what the Lord has done in your life.
