1-2 With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.
~ Romans 8:1-2
You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.
~ George Burns
Oh God! George Burns, John Denver
You know, some folks pray for rain. Some folks pray for it to stop, or for no rain on a special occasion. Here is an example of a person who asked God for something, was a little slow on the uptake, and then “got it.” God made it rain for him, in the car. All while sitting matter-of-factly and not batting an eyelash. And what is John Denver’s response?
“I don’t believe it!”
How often do I say that? I pray for something, I get an answer and “I don’t believe it!” just flows from my mouth. I have been affected by this run of weather this year. This climate change, this preponderance of precipitation. And today, I thought of a reason to be thankful. Eugene Peterson’s Message has given me a different look at my life in Christ and has compared it to a low lying cloud, being cleared by the breath of God and all-at-once freeing me from a lifetime of “brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.”
Thank you Lord!
Today, look that ______ in the eye and thank the Lord for it. Acknowledge your freedom in God, and hear the voice of God letting you know He is right there for you.
