Because You Can

An optimist is a person who starts a new diet on Thanksgiving Day.

     ~Irv Kupcinet
His word thundering so wondrously,
his mighty acts staggering our understanding.
He orders the snow, ‘Blanket the earth!’
and the rain, ‘Soak the whole countryside!’
No one can escape the weather—it’s there.
And no one can escape from God.
     ~ Job 37:5-6
His mighty acts indeed stagger our understanding.  The foliage thrills me down to the veins in a single leaf.  The color as this season progresses is like a pinnacle performance in the trees career, and then the grey of winter clothed in splendor.
Between the leaves and the snow (not everywhere, but in many places, )there is a time when many complain about the grey, the starkness of the deciduous trees without their covering.  The patina of greys and silvers burnished by the wind are just beautiful.  Oft times we are too busy fleeing from house to car, from car to building, etc, to notice.  But I think that is the color of wisdom.  Burnished, smooth, deep, and lasting.
Today, pick one small thing in nature and appreciate the detail, then look at your own beautiful hand, or eye, or foot.  What detail the Lord has crafted into us, and for a purpose that sometimes seems known only to God. Today give thanks because you can.
Because of Him,
