Love Doesn’t Give Up

Sleep will not visit the incomplete soul.

     ~Tim Irwin

If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

I Corinthians 13:4-7

Love doesn’t give up on students that try one’s patience every day.  Especially when that student finally shares that his older brother beats on him all the time, his sister defends him, and his parents know, but don’t follow through.

Love doesn’t give up on the kid that never remembers her book, then goes back to her classroom to get one and forgets that the other one is still in her classroom.  She has a beautiful spirit and is kind to her classmates and listens when no one else will.

Love doesn’t give up on the friend that promised to show you her slides from a trip she took in the 80’s and never did.  She does great things for those around her and has a generous spirit.

Love doesn’t give up on the friend who leaves one’s stomach in knots over the course of conversations.  This conversation has been going on for decades, and God knows where it is headed.

Love doesn’t give up on the friends that are experiencing severe memory loss.  God will give them what they need in the season of their greatest need.

Love doesn’t give up on aging parents who haven’t taken stock of where they are in life, because they are too busy in where they were.

Love doesn’t give up on the person who talks through an entire meeting and then asks what just happened.  God will take care of them in God’s time.

Love doesn’t let you give up on you.  You are where you are meant to be; the hem of His garment, listening for instruction, trusting in the one who goes before you.

Love lets you wake up and instead of fretting or playing Facebook games, love reminds one to pray for all of the above.

Because of Him,

Linda
