Consistency

Never mistake motion for action.

     ~Ernest Hemingway

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

     ~ James 3:17-18

I love what The Message says:

Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other, treating each other with dignity and honor.  ~ James 3:17-18

It is so much easier to find my way when folks are consistent.  Their words are important, but their actions are the thread that helps me to see the garment, what it is made of, how it fits.

It is surprising to me where I find community.

1) The church choir is one place.  I have excellent teachers, incredible support, and comfort when I don’t know and want to learn.

2) The poetry community is one place.  Again, excellent teachers, incredible support and a place to learn without judgement, and with helpful critique.

3) My family is the best place.  It is small, but a powerful group of individuals who tell it like it is, love me all the time and show it with their actions.

There are individuals in all the places I go that are supportive, truthful, etc, and I find that even the inconsistent ones inform who I am in Christ, because when they exhibit behavior that stuns me, I have to think before I act.

Today, think, pray, and walk in the light of God’s consistent lovingkindness, and that of those with whom you feel supported and help you grow.

Because of Him,

Linda
