Preparing for the Gift

A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be.

Why would you ever complain, O Jacob,
    or, whine, Israel, saying,
God has lost track of me.
He doesn’t care what happens to me”?
Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening?
God doesn’t come and go. God lasts.
He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine.
He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath.
And he knows everything, inside and out.
He energizes those who get tired,
    gives fresh strength to dropouts.
For even young people tire and drop out,
young folk in their prime stumble and fall.
But those who wait upon God get fresh strength.
They spread their wings and soar like eagles,
They run and don’t get tired,
they walk and don’t lag behind.
                                                ~ Isa 40:27-31

Our assistant pastor preached an wonderful and practical sermon on Sunday about God caring for us.  While the storm is raging, God is caring for us.  He is with us no matter what we are waiting for.  The other side of the lake, a new job, an apartment, a friend, a husband or wife…while you are going about your life, serving the God who cares for you, God is caring for you, seeing how it is going, and is the breath you take in.  You are teeming with God.
A new strategy (well, actually an old one) that I have re-employed, is preparing the place for that “other,” that thing that i am waiting for.  Right now, it is the completion of our upstairs and the re-model of our kitchen.  It has been on my list for a long time, but, I haven’t acted like it.  So, I am cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, and taking steps to prepare for the coming of the completion of these projects.  I have the tools, I just need to keep my eye on the goal, or, like a good sailor, just above the horizon that I may see the shore.
I’ve got the pictures of my dream colors, and “pieces” where I can see them.  One friend of mine was longing for a husband.  She started putting pictures of things with pairs in them around her apartment.  God’s sense of humor prevailed and she became pregnant with twins!  She then got married.  Two sets of two just from preparing.
Don’t lose heart.  Prepare your heart.  Now that you have
“put it out there” what you are looking for is on its way.  And now you will recognize it when it appears, because you are prepared to see it.  How the Father looks forward to the look on your face when you open His gift.

Because of Him,
Linda
