Ken and the Inner Fire

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

~ Albert Schweitzer

Because of that obedience, God lifted him high and honored him far beyond anyone or anything, ever, so that all created beings in heaven and on earth—even those long ago dead and buried—will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ, and call out in praise that he is the Master of all, to the glorious honor of God the Father.

~ Philippians 2:9-11

It was a funeral service.  A giant of a man had passed.

This gives one a small glimpse into the wonderfulness and beautiful spirit of Ken:

The Old Fashioned Way

For Ken

Your voice deep, thick,

sweet, comforting –

like honey.

Like a drawing salve,

your hug was a place to get lost

and found.

Your vision included

the invisible.

You shared His love and yours

with all you met.

Your loss easy

as swallowing castor oil.

I was ready for the ashes,

I was not ready

for the bleached

bones that chinked against

others     as they

fell

into the

soft

dark

earth.

You are so

much larger than that.

After the interment, I fell apart. overcome with the reduction of such a man of God to what was fed back into the earth.  His daughter and my husband served as comforter, co-mourners, crying towels.  But in those tears, was the beginning of the rekindling of the flame of joy.  I knew where he really was-is.

I also felt the life in the mourning with family and friends at the graveside.  And that life prepared me to celebrate the church triumphant, while walking forth carrying the essence of Ken with me.

As you read this, lift up those around you who helped you get through a very hard good-bye and celebrate their lives along with the help they gave to you.

Because of Him,

Linda
