Crazy Like a Fox

Genius is more often found in a cracked pot than in a whole one.

     ~E.B. White

And I’ll keep on carrying you when you’re old.
I’ll be there, bearing you when you’re old and gray.
I’ve done it and will keep on doing it,
carrying you on my back, saving you.
     ~ Isaiah 46:4

“Crazy like a fox.” she used to say.  It would often be when someone my mother admired did something unexpected.  I would ask “why?”, or say “that’s crazy!” and the above would be my mother’s reply.
Often the fox in question was trying to teach the other person involved. Or be kind in a situation where they were being treated unkindly.  A yes carried as much weight as a no, but they were always well placed. And often the result was what my mother expected.  Not manipulative or passive-aggressive, more like a calculated risk.
The next time you have the feeling that someone you are observing is crazy, keep watching. There’s a lot of truth in E.B. White’s words and even more in Isaiah’s.  God’s got your back!

Because of Him,
Linda
