A wise lover values not so much the gift of the lover as the love of the giver.
                             ~ Thomas á Kempis

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

                                    ~ 2 Peter 3:10-13

It seems I take longer and longer to do some things.  Taking the time to appreciate a moment between friends, love exchanged at church or out in the world, a note on the back of a letter.  All these things might be carried through by human hands, but the unmistakable mark of the giver shows through.

I used to just want to “get through” Christmas shopping, but now I want, even more than before, to give meaningful gifts, and increasingly, all I want from others is for the gift of their time or company.  The hardest part is making myself slow down.  So busy getting from here to there, that it is very hard to just be still or present in the place where I actually am.

Today, take that extra moment at the stop sign instead of rolling through it.  Linger in a hug. look your loved one in the eye and express your heart. Lift your gaze heavenward and just express your thanks for whatever it is you are thankful for at that moment.

Let us continue our Thanksgiving joy into the light of a star that still guides us.

     Because of Him,
