At the Grave-site

To live in this world, you must be able to do three things: to love what is mortal; to hold it against your bones knowing your own life depends on it; and, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go.

Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?”

For Steve

At the grave-site, he faltered,
moved to the shade and collapsed
upon my husband.  One too many
deaths altering his weight.

His heart’s cry escaped,
I joined the hug.  We righted
our pastor.

He had held on to them in life,
guided them to the gate,
let go.

He was still reeling,
from the lightness, like a camper
letting go of their pack,
to set up camp on Glory’s Knoll.

Because of Him,
Linda
