MidWinter’s Eve! Tonight the Sun kisses the southern tropic and turns north. Hope and good cheer to all on this wintry side of our world!
~David J. Beard, 2007
About that time Caesar Augustus ordered a census to be taken throughout the Empire. This was the first census when Quirinius was governor of Syria. Everyone had to travel to his own ancestral hometown to be accounted for. So Joseph went from the Galilean town of Nazareth up to Bethlehem in Judah, David’s town, for the census. As a descendant of David, he had to go there. He went with Mary, his fiancée, who was pregnant.
~ Luke 2:1,4-5
Soon the God of all the universe will kiss the world and remind us that God gave us a baby who grew to save us.
What we need to do is follow Him.
Through the high waters,
the flames that would engulf,
the dry nights of the soul,
the peaks of the mountains,
the depths of sorrow,
the craziness of this world and all its manifestations.
We must follow Him, shine His light
when the trucks crash,
when the din of the fight on both sides of the aisle is crushing,
heart breaking, divisive.
Remember the promise, remember his smile
the way he beckons to us to follow him right across
the water, eyes on Him.
Eyes on Him.
Eyes. On. Him.
Because of Him,
This Baby – Steven Curtis Chapman
