Lord, I Need You

Peace is more precious than a piece of land.”
                                               ~ Anwar Sadat
There’s more: God’s Word warns us of danger
    and directs us to hidden treasure.
Otherwise how will we find our way?
    Or know when we play the fool?
Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh!
    Keep me from stupid sins,
    from thinking I can take over your work;
Then I can start this day sun-washed,
    scrubbed clean of the grime of sin.
These are the words in my mouth;
    these are what I chew on and pray.
Accept them when I place them
    on the morning altar,
O God, my Altar-Rock,
    God, Priest-of-My-Altar.
                                                 ~ Psalm 19:11-14
     It is so easy to see the ridiculousness in other people’s problems.  It is easy to argue your case when you absolutely know you’re right.  It is easy to ask others to have an open mind when considering your case, but not so easy otherwise. What’s hard is giving it back to God.
     With land, if a survey is involved, you ask an independent surveyor to come in and find the boundaries agreed upon so long ago in a town or hamlet.
     With things, having peace with one’s relatives is more important than the things. Even when there is injustice because ultimately, you all have to find peace with the choices you made, or that were made for you and so does the other.
     With politics?  Losing battle.  Nothing can change another person’s heart except God, except time, except age and wisdom, even if (which is nearly impossible) one engages in civil, informed debate which is a dying art.
     With trying to help God?  We never seem to stop trying to advise.  Sometimes, what God asks of you means that all God wants is for you to be willing to do that hard thing.
     With rejection?  It is true that being kicked to the curb hurts, the hard part is loving that person when the clearest thing you can see is there boot sole. Or rather, allowing God to love them through you.
     Oh Lord, help me to place it ALL at your feet, help me to praise you no matter what, and trust your hand, wisdom, judgement. Instead of “Uncle” let us cry “Abba, Father, thy will be done.”
