Broken Things

“The unity that binds us all together, that makes this earth a family, and all men brothers and the sons of God, is love.”
         ~ Thomas Wolfe

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

        ~ 1 Peter 1:3 KJV

How did Jesus stand it?  Leaving the joy of Heaven to experience this life as a human, he came to bring light, truth, love.  And God’s children fought.  A precious few heard him, and even they fought.  How are we to negotiate this world and these times if we keep spreading hate?
Social media is a wonderful tool, and a very wise poet told me that I shouldn’t poo-poo the tool.  She told me that I should find a way to use it for the good.  And so I do my best. I post positive quotes for all, I post a devotional that I pray uplifts. I take my role as an educator very seriously and do not post political opinions, or atrocities that occur at the hands of my brothers and sisters who cannot see how sometimes the reporting of hate fans the flames.
I am no angel, but I do want to bring God’s people together. I want to bring an empty, worn out me to heaven, spent in the service of the King.  I get in the way so very often.  The joy is that every time I fall, when I look up, I see heaven, I see the goal.
Today, let us  bind together in love and spread heaven.
     Because of Him,
     Linda

Bozo the Punching Bag

Politeness is the art of choosing among one’s real thoughts.

     ~Abel Stevens

What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.
     ~ 1 Peter 1:3
Yesterday was a day when I felt a kinship with Bozo the Clown punching bag.   There was one punch for the Father, Son and Holy Ghost!  Faithful friend was near, others not so much. All about things not in my control.
I consciously asked God to remind me that there must be a blessing on the other side of the final round, and the punches just kept on coming.
I did not eat a bag of anything, consume copious amounts of anything, take it out on anyone.  I did write a letter to my family chronicling the day.  That felt good.  I got it all out.  And I did leave a position within the organization. I had simply had enough.
Then when I got up this morning, the scripture reminded me that there is indeed a blessing both here and in the future.
Don’t lose your focus!   I was so tempted to lash out, to make a scene, to answer back.  A little of that leaked out in the last round, but for the most part, I held it together, worked out at my favorite gym and came home a more civil person.
Today, acknowledge your anger, write a letter to yourself even if your intended recipient is someone else, just to get it all out, and then give it to the only one who knows what to do with it.
Because of Him,
Linda

Oops! Today is the 12th day…poetry!

Therefore gird up your minds, be sober, set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

~1 Peter 1:13

In the Night

For Tim and Nancy

They consulted charts,

Studied the heavens,

Considered the cost.

They packed carefully,

Mindful of who they were

And where they were going.

They left their rules,

Moving together

On a course that transformed

The universe, a heavenly taper

Lead them on a light strewn path.

They carried more than curiosity,

Bore more than regal gifts,

Drawn past evil intentions

To a modest receiving room .

You, follow the star still,

Sojourners, leaders, pilgrims.

Mindful of who you are…

Because of Him,
Linda

Breakfast with Nana

Habit is habit, and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.

  ~ Mark Twain

Habit…we don’t have habits that are instant. At least I don’t believe I do.  The good and the bad have to be coaxed  in or out, down the stairs and out the door or down the stairs and into …whatever it needs to be.  There is a Cheerios commercial running right now that uses habit in a lovely way.
Cheerios
The child asks if his mom used to have Cheerios for breakfast with Nana.  The mom responds “Yes.”
The child inquires further, “Were Cheerios the same back then?”
Mom says, “Cheerios have been pretty much the same forever.”
Child says, “So, when we have Cheerios it’s kind of like having breakfast with Nana.”
The mother’s breath catches and then she says “Yeah.”  And “Yeah again with a joyful upturn.”  And then, “You’re so smart.”

As you face this habit of communion this World Communion Sunday, remember, It’s like having bread with Jesus…all over this world.
Today, relax your prejudices, political and otherwise. Let the Lord shine through the simple things, like breakfast.

Because of Him,
Linda
