The Trunk Fairy

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.

God doesn’t miss anything. He knows perfectly well all the love you’ve shown him by helping needy Christians, and that you keep at it. And now I want each of you to extend that same intensity toward a full-bodied hope, and keep at it till the finish. Don’t drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them.
       ~ Hebrews 6:10-12

I have a friend who calls herself Corky.  She is a painter. She calls colors from the earth and they come to her.  And she is a harsh self-critic with an uncanny dose of wisdom in her palette.
We were in a craft workshop making jewelry together.  I was being self critical and she stopped me and said, “Wait for the trunk fairy!”
“The trunk fairy?”  I replied. “What’s the trunk fairy?”
“The trunk fairy is the one who comes in the night.  I put my art work in the trunk, and leave it over night.  In the morning, I am amazed by the improvement in my art work!”
Somewhat cynical, I laughed, and went home and tried it out.  In fact it worked. I made some jewelry.  I covered it, put it away.   When I looked at it again, I was amazed at the trunk fairy’s work.  I found out she also works with poetry, and other endeavors.
By now some of you are praying for me, worried that I am turning to the dark side.  But, it was all in good fun.  It was God all the time, and God did not change Corky’s art, my jewelry, my poetry or anything else.  God changed my perspective.
Give it all to God: you art, your craft, you prayers, your garden real or spiritual,  all of it.  Watch what God does with your efforts.  Don’t destroy, despair, depart.  Wait upon the Lord.  Watch God work.
When we get home, and look back, what an amazing array of blessings we will see trailing behind us.

Lord, we pray so hard for you to change us, for you to answer our prayers, for us to be more like you.  When the answers come, sometimes we are so ready to deny it, to put ourselves down.  Help us to stand in your light and say thank you for working through us (me- if you are praying this prayer.) In Jesus’s name, Amen.
     Because of Him,
     Linda
