If you are still talking about what you did yesterday, you haven’t done much today.

Oh! May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope!
~ Romans 15:13
I guess I heard it first when I was younger. Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. It was attributed to Albert Einstein, Ben Franklin, Mark Twain. The bottom line is it applied. But it didn’t sink in again until I started going to Weight Watchers. My instructor said, “If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.”
I thought she was funny until I realized that I was trying to lose weight employing the same methods I had in the past. This went along well and good until I was in a place where I thought I had no friends. My daughter said, “If you always look at it the same way, you will never see anything differently.” She was right, and wise to tell me, even though there is no way I wanted to hear it.
Then we went on vacation (my husband and I) and I noticed that I felt better ordering certain things from the menu. At the end of the week, I felt my body changing and I remembered those wise words. I needed to change something up. So, when I returned home, I started taking the “Fitbit” challenges that my family lay down, I started to do more at the gym, and in a different order. I had no idea that it was preparing me for something else.
Recently, my husband was in the hospital after shortness of breath. It was a new challenge, and totally unexpected (at least for me.) But what it meant was, calling in the prayer warriors (always a good thing,) listening to the doctors in a new way, and being resolved to move forward toward health.
The same thing applies to our faith. If we repeat things over and over, and expect something different, we are in for no surprises. But if we start to really listen, be true to what we hear the Lord tell us, instead of wanting to please everyone around us, the change begins to occur. As we move closer to the Lord, and our spouses, friends, sisters and brothers in faith are trying to move closer to the Lord, we inevitably move closer to each other on this journey.
Take a look at your thinking with regard to routine, change, diet, etc. Do you have “stinkin’ thinkin’?” Negative self-talk? Are you able to receive praise and say thank you, standing in the light of God’s grace? The fingers are all pointing at me, not you. I am just sharing what is helping, and looking forward to your responses as you see the joy that is set before you.
Because of Him,
